Chicago was always a city I admired, first discovering it through Michael Wolf’s book The Transparent City. When I finally visited, I felt like a kid in a candy store, surrounded by a legacy of preservation, design, and architecture that helped reshape the future of the American city.

The images function as both portraits and landscapes of iconic buildings designed by some of the world’s leading architects. They explore not only the architecture itself, but also its relationship to the streets, neighboring structures, and the larger urban fabric of Chicago. The city’s buildings are so distinctive and carefully articulated that they can often be identified through their relationship to the architecture surrounding them.
