A vast choice of lenses with the ALPA 12 FPS
Test ALPA Products

With the ALPA 12 FPS, the photographer can use a wide selection of high-end ALPA lenses and lenses from other manufacturers and types. This unique camera opens up the use of brand-new or fond old lenses from dozens of different optical systems manufacturers – with or without a central shutter and with or without manual or electronic aperture control. Plus, a free choice of format is only limited by the lens's image circles and sensor sizes.

Look at selected demo images taken with various lenses/brands to demonstrate what can be expected. The pictures reveal some hidden reserves in the image circle and stunning results.

All the samples are taken with a standard ALPA 12 FPS and IQ180. They show 100% of the image plus frames indicating 24x36 mm, 33x44 mm, 37x49 mm, and 36x56 mm formats for a better interpretation next to the primary technical data. All lenses - new and used - are not specially selected or modified for this test. The RAW development took place with Capture One Pro and its standard settings.

The ALPA FPS can operate Canon "fly-by-wire" lenses like the 85/f1.2 II or the 40/f2.8 STM since early this year. Please make sure your FPS is up-to-date with the newest firmware release.

Schlussfolgerung

It's impressive what lenses can find a second life in digital medium format. Often these lenses also offer the imperfection that is desired for special projects. And impressive results need sometimes just the "courage to crop", especially with the new ultra high resolving digital backs. We cannot make a general rule about which lenses are usable per se. Often, certain combinations of lens and digital back produce different results and even turn out better in the next generation of backs. We motivate our customers to try out and find their favorite combination passionately.
